Mostly known as Bear's Paw from Grandmother Clark's Authentic Early American Quilts, Book 23, 1932. It's also known as American Rosebud, The Best Friend, Doves in the Window, Dick's Foot in the Mud, Rosebud and Tea Rose, From The Quilter's Album of Patchwork Patterns by Jenny Beyer.
Use small prints in white red and black. Block measures 14 1/2" unfinished
One 2 1/2" black square for center
Sixteen 2 1/2" half square triangles in black and white. See below for suggestion.
Twelve 1/2" white squares
Eight 2 1/2" red squares
Four 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" squares
Sew all pieces according to the photo making sure the red squares are pointing toward the black square and the half-square black points face toward each other.
To make half square triangles: cut two 6" squares of each of the black and white. Place a black and white square right-sides together. Draw diagonal lines from corner to corner and sew a scant 1/4" from the drawn line. Cut each square 3" from the bottom and the sides, then cut on the diagonal lines. Square each to 2 1/2". Repeat to make 16 half square triangles.
To be turned in at the March meeting.
